    The Mtns of Bishop

Taken not far from Galen Rowell's Mountain Light Gallery in Bishop. A decent sunrise, but still trying to get the right combo of contrast, detail, saturation and sharpness. C&Cs are welcome.

Shot looks cool, however I would like to see a little more detail in the foreground. I have to look pretty hard for it to not look totally black.

I think you've done pretty well with this one. Sharpness and saturation are great. Beautiful tonal range and contrast. The foreground does lack some detail but I'm not particularly bothered by that (plus the fact that any universal corrections would certainly play havoc with the shadow areas in the mountains beyond)

    Re: The Mtns of Bishop

Thanks for the replies. You know, I thought about the lack of foreground, and it might actually be better: there's not really anything of interest there, so the pic's more about the mountains and lighting. And the contrast.

I do wish the moon was a little lower on the horizon so that I could crop off a little more of the sky. And nobody commented on the lack of any particular item to rest your eyes on .. I think this is a flaw with the shot that is hard to overcome. Without something special, it's just monotonous. But at least the colors are nice.

I would think that moving the moon in photoshop wouldn't be that difficult. Another option would be to open the photo in photoshop and select just the sky portion with the magic wand tool. Cut it and paste into another layer behind the original and drop the sky down closer to the mountains.

Gb a trick I use is to make two pictures, one of the scene and a perfectly exposed shot of the moon, zoomed it. Then replace the moon in the scene cloning the old one, put the moon where you want it and resize it. Blend it in with the clone stamp. This way you get more detail in the moon.
