    Mountain trail

Took this about 2 months ago a little east of San Diego near a place called Ramona. Not a strong subject in the photo, but it seems to have a tranquility about it (?)

I like it, but think a more interesting sky would make it stronger. I do like the scene, and the composition though.

GB, my comment will probably sound odd (actually I guess that it is...) but I'll totally get rid of the foreground in this one to only focus on the mountains and the sky in the distance. I am drawn at your picture but I feel that the keypoint is the mountains and how they progressively fade away in the haze.

here is what I have in mind

    regards

I agee with Seb that the foreground detracts. The green of the grass in particular. Interesting profile in the photo. The rocks and haze/clouds look like they could use some selective contrast boosting. (more range)

Thanks Seb. Interesting angle here. I also think the strength of the photo is the fading mountains in the background, and I suppose that the green grass is a big-time change up.

Payn - Yeah, the sky is a little plain. Not a cloud up there. Unfortunately, not much one can do about it unless they live nearby and can climb the mtn on a whime.

Drg - I'll try a mask and see what I get. With so little besides the blue, I don't know if it'll make any difference though. I think that maybe this was taken at the wrong time of the day - too much contrast with the foreground, and not enough warmth in the sky.

    Thanks for commenting

If I may, I think the crop Seb applied works very well with your original photo. Regarding the sky, I think adding warmth would kind of undo what Seb's crop gave you: an interesting work in shades of blue, grey and white. I personally don't find the the plain sky to be an issue with this particular photo; just the opposite, in fact. To follow-up with drg's comment, I think if you were to consider punching in a little more blue just to the sky to balance the blue and white shading throughout the background (a little darker blue fading into the transitions of the background mountains and haze fading in to the darker grey) that might produce a very interesting piece of work.

I like it a lot. Good shot.
