I like the detail in the leaf and the background really brings out the colours. The only critique is there is no stalk!
The bottom one is much better and I like the composition better as it puts the leaf in context of its surroundings. The leaf really pops in this one, excellent

Thanks Roger for your comments on these. The stem is actually tucked underneath the first leaf...I had taken some shots from the side...but I preferred to see the full color against the asphalt. But you're right...it's definitely "missing" from the photo.

I like your leaf shots...the others as well. The color is nice in this first one, but it looks too flat. I like the second one better. The holes are neat. Did you use photoshop to change the effects of dof? I ask because it almost looks like the out of focus area traces just outside the edge of the leaf...if that makes any sense. I have no concept of what is possible with photoshop. I'm probably just hallucinating again. Its good though. I like it. The picture, I mean...not hallucinating
Thank you Themage & Paul for your comments on this.
Paul...I didn't use photoshop at all for this. I just cropped it a bit, and I fixed the contrast. I did take this from pretty much ground level...so maybe that's why it looks that way...?

The second one is excellent. The curled shape makes it for me. The light on the leaf is great and the pinholes in the bottom section are very effective.

I have a total lack of respect for anything connected with society, except that which makes the roads safer, the beer stronger, the food cheaper, and the old men and old women warmer in the winter and happier in the summer. Brendan Behan
