The Moon

Or, part of the moon, I should probably say. I was finally able to get my new telescope out on a good clear night and take some test photos. Out of 20 shots this one was best. It's only a 4" telescope, also acts as a 1000mm camera lens, so I'll make a note here that I did crop this image to get rid of some black space. Next time I'll have to focus better, I had to sharpen this a little bit. Anyway, how do you like it?

Thanks. I said what I used in the original post; a 4" telescope (acts as a 1000mm lens). Telescopes are measured by the diameter of the lens.

the detail is quite good.. the exposure about right.. as moon shots go its a nice one.. but short of getting a bigger telescope its hard to go much further with moon shots..

that looks really good nice exposure, very clear lots of detail on the surface, nice placement i nthe frame i like it good job what was your exposure anyway

That's a good question. That shot was taken at shutter speed 160.

Very good. Could be even sharper, as you already know. The contrast could be increased a little too. This shot is good material for later compositions - Halloween collages, etc - that you may want to do later.

I didn't take the contrast too high because every little bit of contrast added made the dark/light horizon move farther to the right, making less of the light side of the moon visible.
