What interesting rock formations and you have used them to very good effect on the silhouette shot. The other shots are also fine but you were just not blessed with a half decent sky.

I really like the first and fourth shots in this series. The color, creativity, perspective are all very nice. I haven't been to Mono Lake in years. Thanks for sharing.

    Re: Mono

Thks for commenting folks. I wish the sky was a little more interesting.. it actually was facing west, with some decent clouds over the mountains. Mono lake is changing... They say it's shrunken too far down so now it's in a planned recovery whose goal is to raise the level well above what you're seeing. A lot of the wooden boardwalk area to what you are seeing will eventually be underwater again. I guess they figure the benefit will outweigh the lose.

    Hiya GB!

The first and the last are my favs. In #1 I love the colors of the sky with the silhouettes. #4 is just a great catch of the sun between the rocks! #3 I like but it just falls short in comparison with #4. Is this place connected with the Salton Sea at all? It looks just as strange with all of those mineral deposit columns. Neat stuff!

Well, the one thing about your photographs is that they always make me want to ditch work and go travel
My favorite is the last photo...it looks like a bonsai garden, with rivers, ponds and trees. I love the placement of the sun. The one area that bothers me is that bit of grass sticking up in the foreground and as tom stated, the sky just didnt cooperate.
Good job on these shots tho, looks like a great place to visit.

    Cheers.

    Re: Mono

THKS Tao and CL. I've heard about Mono Lake for years, but never had the op to visit till last Mem day (always headed out to the desert on my vacations... decided to head north for a change).

CL it is up in the mountains, the "Eastern Sierras" I believe.. Has a popular ski resort there named Mammoth Mountain where you can ski until July (!) There's a dozen or more lakes in the area but Mono is the desolate one. This place is nowhere near the Salton Sea btw - it's actually closer to Death Valley, and has a road into Yosemitee (they call it the back door) that was still closed on Memorial Day due to snow.

Tao the best thing about photographing the west is that it's so easy to get good landscape shots... you have to work for it in the east, but here, it's a simple matter of driving to them and getting up before dawn

Put me down for the first and last as well. I would have loved the second, but the cut off peak leaves me short.

    Re: Mono

OK Dee, I guess the consensus is # 1 and # 4 are the best.

Too bad about photo # 2 though.. I was hoping that what was there would compensate for a lousy composition.. guess not.
