    Chunk,

I like this. Abstract, and the shadows are stunning. I might recommend a color adjustment, just to keep interest.

    Nice shot, good patterns,

    Jared

I like this as well. You've framed this nicely and the colors and textures are appealing. Possibly a harsh midday sun subdueing the colors a bit? But still, very effective.

I like the comp and graphic quality...I'd up the saturation just a smidgen... ;)

Jared, Gary, Nat, thanks for taking the time to look and comment. Here's another shot with a saturation boost and then a wider view in case you were wondering what you were looking at.

    Chunk,

Neat subject without a doubt. Your head on one without the diagonal angle is interesting, it's a nice change from your original and for some reason, I like it (maybe the linearness of it?). Great shot though and way to find a nice subject from that scene!

    Nice shooting,

    Jared

Thanks Jared. The head on shot was how I envisioned it when I first saw it.

Thank you LavaLamp, I hadn't considered playing with the photo that much but now I have. Here's some POP.

    Re: Blue

I'm so into rusty metal & blue being one of my favorite colors you made a nice combination here. I actually preferred not knowing where this came from nonetheless it makes for a pretty good abstract which I am now finding I enjoy alot more than I used to.
Very nice composition and interesting subject. Gearheads rule!

You know, the tractor has a neat, dare I say it, face. You could isolate just that, and try out something. Now what, I don't know, but it has a lot of potential. The rust pattern is very Garyesque . I like it. Decrepitude is always fun to show. Great stuff.

    Re: Blue

Ah ha! So that's what it is.

Chunk, I like the original abstract. I like how the forms are repeating, but with variation. The rust and the blue are also nicely complementary. A well thought out composition.

    Thanks for sharing,

    Re: Blue

Thanks Nina. I don't know about gearheads - this tractor halls wagonloads of handicapped kids around at an Easter Seals camp that my daughter works/volunteers at. Now those people working there rule.

Thanks. That face (kinda looks like a wolf spider crouching there to me) was the first thing I noticed about the tractor as we walked down the trail toward it.

    Re: Blue

Thanks for your time and thoughts Tim. Reapeating and varying is one thing I like in my pattern shots. When I've taken enough shots of something interesting straight on and level, I usually try some compositions where you get the lines running at angles through the frame and they usually look stronger and more dynamic to me.

My shots are usually not all that much thought out or planned as they are reaction to what I'm experiencing through the viewfinder. I guess the thinking part in photography for me comes more when I am reviewing my own and other peoples shots and thinking about variations that could have been chosen in the field. The time with a camera in my hand is more an enjoyable escape from thought than anything else. I know that limits some aspects of my photography but that's what works for me.

    Re: Blue

    Chunk,
I like the first one the best. I like the way it sits in the frame and I like the simpleness of it, just shapes, texture and color. I prefer the color in their natural state. could you possible bring out the shadows a little.. may give it a more 3d look.
    good shot,
    Kit
