I like where you want to go with this. I do find the vignette too strong. And the rocks behind her come across as overexposed . I don't think they really are, perhaps it's just the color, but they do come across as harsh. Then her shadow behind her head is too heavy. The position of her arm on the rail isn't flattering for her. It makes it look like her upper arm is bulging. And her other arm, because it's pressed up against her breast, looks heavy when it's obviously not.

Thanks D. Long time no see! When did you move to China? I miss the old days of Ronnoco's rantings and politics on the Off Topic forum.

I see something here as well, like the scene has all kinds of potential. I could probably clip off the area just under her feet. I personally like the indirection of her looking to her right when her body's facing elsewhere. I agree on the vignette - just overdone There's a fundamental problem with posing a dark subject against white rocks: something has to give, detail-wise, unless you have a really soft light (which we did not, it being like the desert that morning). I guess this one could really look different at sunrise with a nice warm glow ...

    Re: Modeling at the Barn

....for me vignetting doesn't work in modeling images. I would rather see it in weddings, debuts, personal portraits, maternities, etc.
... the image could use a bit of shades and shadows.... hit it with like a couple of strobes.

I personally like the vignette, it adds character and really focuses you attention on the subject. The photo does seem a little dark though I think you might want to brighten it just a bit. Good picture.

    Re: Modeling at the Barn

Thanks Phil and Naz, this is an excellent discussion. I wish I had access to my images here (they're at home) so I could post the original w/o the vignette, just for comparison. I agree that it seems a tad artificial here. However ... Little do a lot of people know, but if you look back at many of my model shots that I've posted in the last year or two, most do have vignettes. I use them in discrete ways to emphasize the model. I think the trick is using them and having the photo look like you didn't use them. Maybe that should be the philosophy for most if not all post processing effects/tricks?

Phil, I also see what you mean about shadows. That might create a wow effect. I am not sure it would work for this particular model however, as she has more of a 'girl next door' look.

    Thanks again guys

I might not come around much any more but I sure don't miss that Troll Ronnoco. Still good fodder for the fire eh?

GB I'm with D on the harsh looking light on the stone. Your model seems a bit small in the frame too but I think the crop you suggested would tidy it up nicely.

    Re: Modeling at the Barn

Thks CL. The harsh lighting, contrasty colors and odd mix of urban clothing and barn is probably too much to overcome, but here's another crop, just for the sake of comparison. And no vignette here, but I'm not sure it makes that much difference.

So you don't miss Ronnoco, but do you miss the D.C. area..? It's been almost 13 yrs since I moved west. I wonder if ol Ron is trolling around another site nowadays, spreading hate and discontent
