    Re: Model Shoot

Not to nit pick but the original background still shows through her hair in many spots, It is quite apparently a photoshop background, her hair appears unnatural (fake) due to the straight lines used to crop her from the original, and its a little noisy. However for the actual photograph its a very good shot good composition. I would also work on the reflection in her eyes. Tone that down a little and your good to go. Sorry for the nit picking.

    Re: Model Shoot

Thanks, I do not know how to get all of the spots through the hair to show the background. If anyone knows a easier way, I would love to know it.
Her hair is actually very smooth, there were just a couple strays, but again, I do not know how to get them in without showing the original background.
Not sure about the noise, it is not on my original..... might be a photobucket thing??

    Re: Model Shoot

Chow - Not bad for a first shoot. It is a tad bit rigid but a good initial model shoot shot. The pic does seem a tad oversaturated to me, esp the pinks (they say to err on the warm side with models, but this may be a little too pinkish). Did you purposely go for a soft focus? Her eyes seem unsharp. I like the reflections in her eyes. I would have asked her to exaggerate the lipstick a bit.

I think I may have used more frontal fill (reflector, or ?) to make it pop more. The black she is wearing is bound to cause some extreme contrast and make the black outfit lose all definition ... this isn't necessarily bad and might work real well in certain situations. It kind of oversimplifies it here, imo (but what the heck do I know).

Btw, what was the original background?

Hope you don't mind but I desaturated it here as an expt. I think B&W looks really good with most models,

    Re: Model Shoot

Good tips.... the original background was my living room - this shot was more of a last minute shot. She was not intentionally posing for this one, She was getting frustrated and flipped her hair back and I told her to freeze and took this shot. I was trying to do a little bit of a soft focus but not too much.

I like the b/w - the pink was her choice. She wanted it for her house. I think I will play around with other backgrounds and see what I can come up with.

I agree that the B&W really works well here.
    No, I DON'T need that.

    Re: Model Shoot

I agree about the oversaturated colors in her. It also looks cut and pasted and I think you could reduce that look by applying a slight blur to the edges.
The b&w looks better because it eliminates the heavy saturation and odd coloring in the skin tones, but there is still the cut and pasted look.
    not bad for a first.
btw, you might want to post a thread also in the Studio and lighting forum to see what advice you can get from some of our more experienced members in this type of shoot.

The only thing that really bothers me about this is the shirt - its a very dark color and its not showing much in detail - but it is showing a little excessive noise. I like to get people in brighter shirts, at least not almost-black shirts, or white for that matter. What was the problem with the original backdrop?

    Re: Model Shoot

The pink background isn't working for me.
Clouds of 2 shades of brown or grey may look better here. Or even a plain black bg, although there would be a fear of her disappearing into the bg if you chose black.
    What was the original bg?

There are some yellow hues going on with her right arm and her chest. Was there a light on somewhere.

The lighting is nice on her face though.

    Re: Model Shoot

She was in my living room, she was kneeling by my window - the original bg was of my living room(couch, etc)

I will try playing with some other colored backgrounds and also try softening the edges too to see if that will help her seem more natural.
