    Model Portrait

During a figure model shoot, I noticed that the model really seemed to have it for portraiture too. Comments? Touched up with Portrait Professional.

her skin seems a bit too dark and rough. Definitely would like to see it with the stray hair tamed down.

The face seems too red to me, and the specific crop of the shoulders seems a bit unflattering. But the work on the face is quite nice. The hair being disheveled is a debatable issue.

Its nice portrait no question about it. But the only thing is that I couldn't avoid comparing the difference in skin tone between her face and shoulder. Something which is natural for women who wear face make up, but this particular pose it puts them both side by side and emphasizes the difference quite a bit.

The eyes look a bit quirky to me. The shoulder and back look really wide in the bottom left. Maybe a tighter crop?

-aw rogue hair.... I hate that !!!
-you could have increased the power of the background light to make the halo obvious
-sunglasses on hair is kind of weird for a portrait .. she has a big forehead.. without the -glasses would hide that.
-the position is a bit awkward too

I don't mind the hair but the shoulders just look. . .weird. Sorry. Sunglasses probably not the best addition. Her face overall is great. I just would have liked to see her shoulders either cropped more or her whole body turned so the shoulders look smaller/thinner.

    Re: Model Portrait

    Some excellent feedback here.

One thing that I forgot to mention - we were shooting a 'beach' scene in studio here. So to look like a beach babe, she needed free hair and sunglasses.

Anbesol, I really have a hard time deciding on how light to make this one. Maybe it's a tad dark. As for her hair, probably a matter of personal taste. Some like straight, others wilder. As mentioned above, this scene was beachy with chair and with sunglasses.

Daq, I thought I may have added a little too much warmth in post processing, but checking the orig, that's the way it came out. Her hair was red, so maybe it reflected a bit on her? Attached is a different crop.

Asmarlak, thanks for pointing out the face makeup vs clear skin on the shoulder. Actually, she had very little makeup ... too little it turns out. The 'makeup' was added in post processing. maybe too much. I toned it down a little. This is the kind of stuff that's sometimes had to see in your own work! Thanks again for that.

Marco, Interesting .. the eyes make her look quirky, eh? They definitely talk to you; part of the reason I was interested in portraits of her. Note that these are her real eyes - no PP. Totally agree on her back - I guess it was my fault because I told her to lean forward to not catch the chair in the viewfinder. See the new post.

Phil, Yep, she went rogue on us. Actually though, I did a number of different scenes and she adjusted her hair in many. Look for more postings soon. I wish I had upped the power on the background, just because I tend to like it better like that. She definitely has a large forehead, and maybe the glasses emphasize that even more. actually, I learned in art class that the eyes are ~ half way down in the head, which isn't intuitive. I think she falls within that range but with her it just seems more obvious.

Ridgetop, But if she was turned toward me she wouldn't be looking over her shoulder. Different pose, not good or bad, just different. What do you think of this new post?

Also, maybe her with a beach background would work better with the sunglasses. I fished around, found this. Not sure it works -- but at least it shows the concept. I upped the sat on it, maybe too much? Anyway ..

This is probably basic for you, but how to you select the foreground to still get the strands of hair, etc.when you change out the backgrounds??? - Terry

Old Clicker - The only way I know is to use Fluid Mask:

    www.vertustech.com

It creates a GIF with transparent edges (how it doesn't lose color resolution with the GIF, I don't know)

    Re: Model Portrait

I definitely prefer the tighter crop. Much better IMO.
