    MOcean

Yes, I meant to spell it like that.
I fell on my butt and my knee trying to get these shots. Trod in the most disgusting seaweed full of tiny flies and was sitting on a rock with the tide coming in at me, my jeans are wet now lol. All good fun hey?

I need help from the experts on this one because I don't have a clue what I am doing!
How did I do? What can I do to improve on these?
No sugar coating on the CC please.
    I WANT to learn!

Hey Alison, Its funny you post up shots such as these, I was at the beach not 3 hours ago trying to take photo's such as you have taken. I'll post up my results when I get it developed.

You ask on how to improve those shots...what are you trying to achieve? What do you want the end result to be? To me, they look alright. I do like the swirling effect in the second photo more than the first.

I can offer no technical advice, but I really like the 'starburst' spray pattern in the first one. - TF

Something I didn't manage to get haha. No I was pretty happy with what I got.
Water stroking the rocks. Almost like a waterfall. Motion blur.
I may have got better results with the tide going out? So the water may have dragged on the rocks much better. The tide wasn't very strong anyway.
    How's my composition?

    Re: MOcean

Your story reminds me of when I ventured inside a storm surge drain pipe to get a view from within. . . . feet wet, pretty disgusting. Yep, all in good fun lol

These are both fine shots. I prefer the second one. . .but then the more i look I seem to like them equally for different reasons.
My only thought of improving would be that I wonder what these look like with some slight color. I have a feeling that the color versions might offer even a bit more to the eye and mood.
    Fine shots, Alison.

    Re: MOcean

    Thanks Gary.
Here are the full versions complete with a sunflare, which, I cropped out before because I wasn't sure whether to leave it in or not. I like it, personally but it might not be the correct thing to leave in according to the experts and I'd like to get this right.

I added a spicify filter to these from Topaz Labs "Topaz Adjust". It's so cool!

    Re: MOcean

Just as I suspected, the color adds so much more to these. These are wonderful. I think removing the flare was good, as this flare does nothing for the image, only detract imo.
Very nice, leave in color. My thoughts.
Also, I like the sky included in the original version of the first. Don't crop it out, it adds alot here.

You can easily remove the flare without cropping by using the clone tool to replace it with rock

Ok, so now with that gone, would you say this one of the 2 is the best?

Hey Alison, I think the colour versions are much more interesting due to all the nice colours and hues it has going for it.

    Re: MOcean

I like these in both color and B & W (then again I'm a sucker for black and white photography of any kind )

I'm no expert by any means but if you're trying to get more "motion in your ocean" increase your exposure time (by whichever means, according to available light). Like others have said, it depends on what look you're going for. If you look at my recent "morning on the wharf" thread in this section, the first shot was at f 3.5 and the reshoot was at f 22 with a tamaron 28-80 - same time of day and similar lighting conditions, but you'll see the drastic difference in the way the water is captured.

    Re: MOcean

#1 I think is alot better now with color and the sky. Definetly better than the original b&w you posted. I still feel the second shot, in color is my fav of the two because of the motion of the water and smooth texture and colors in the rocks.
    Good cloning job . . .
    Both are really very good.
