Misty, Buttery Stream

This image is of a stream in Buttermilk falls, located about 10 minutes from Ithaca, New York— home to Cornell University. I actually shot this handheld with some support from a rock at f/29 so it had to be sharpened a little bit (diffusion+shake blur).

With support from a pointy rock, to prevent vertical shake. Given the wider focal length I used, camera shake was actually not too bad for the long exposure. The other trick is using what's called the "hunter's slingshot". You wrap the neck strap around both elbows, forming a trapezoid with your camera. When you separate your elbows and tension the strap, the possible range of movement diminishes and camera shake will be greatly reduced.

6 secs is amazing. I like the exposure but I'm afraid the composition does nothing for me.
The angle gives me a queasy feeling and the foam at the bottom is chopped off.
I think it would be better if you'd gone to a vertical format.

Its a good job with the handheld. I think you should have went with a lot larger aperture which would have allowed you to increase the shutter speed dramatically giving you much less shake etc. I see you used aperture priority. Maybe go manual and bracket your speed up and around 1/30 sec on the dark side and go from there with PP. That should be more than enough to give you a good water flow. Was it very low light?

nice capture, especially considering hand-held. I wonder what time of day it was? I went to school in Oneonta, not too far from there. Ithaca is Gorges, isn't that what they say? Well done.

This was around 3:00'ish in the afternoon. There was heavy tree cover though, which posed a problem since there would be spots of sunlight that made its way through the tree cover, and would show up as blown out highlights. This was one of the few images that didn't suffer from that problem.
