Nice composition. I wish the fellow did something crazy or at least funny, like throwing his hat in the air, etc. But Im sure he likes the shot..

Thanks for the comment, GB. Sometimes it's hard to remove the bias from being there and knowing the subject. I wasn't really sure if this shot would work, so I was thinking mostly about the exposure when I took it. Next time, I'll be ready to catch a more interesting moment.

I like your framing and comp here as well. The fire and it's trails of burning embers is dynamic. The tones of the subjects are very washed out, and appears like your flash did all the lighting here, where it might have looked better with a dimmer, more fill flash typw setting. a good image, nonetheless

    Re: Midnight Stoker

    Hi Gary,

Thanks for the comment. I'm glad you like the comp and noticed the trails of embers. I agree about the subject looking washed out. Any suggestions on how to improve that? I took several shots around the campfire, and I found that there was such a difference in brightness, between the fire and the people around it, you either had to rely on the flash to light the people, or the fire was completely burned out (hehe). I can't remember what f-stop I used, but the shutter was 10 sec. Know any tricks or tips for a shot like this? I was using a manual flash, so should I have stopped down a little?

    Thanks,
    Paul
