    Michelle 2

Model Michelle again. This one is a little to bright for my tastes, but let's see what others think.

Sadly, I photo crows more than pretty ladies and so you should take what I say with a grain of salt:

    1. I think you could crop out the water. The reflection of the rocky wall could stay. In fact, I may even brighten the reflection of it.
    2. It's too bright for me, too, but an easy fix except the front of her dress - that part is blown.

I could probably recover some of her dress as I shot this in RAW, but with that bright light, sitting in direct sunlight, it will be difficult. I also think it's too bright and will tone it down about 1/3 to 1/2 a stop. But to me, the main issue is that it's too straightforward a pose - maybe even boring.

I will hold back on my comments on this a little! Definitely like the first one a lot better, its not just the brightness, but the pose on this one doesn't do anything for me. Maybe its just my monitor on this crappy laptop (after all, it does make small black lines look like highways!), but her eyes don't seem in synch...kinda like one is looking straight ahead and the other is veering up and to the right.

I wonder if she was posing for another photographer, and you took the shot ?

White dress in direct sunlight certainly doesn't make things any easier

Her legs were wet ? there is an intense shine on one of them and a poodle under one of her feet

Why you holding back, Ken? Comment away .. I listen. If I don't agree I may ignore or ask for clarification, but most of the time the comments here are pretty enlightening (sometimes comments are completely off-base :mad2:, but that happens pretty infrequently).

I agree that her body language isn't as interesting here. At the same time, I think the pose is appropriate, sort of, for the scene... leaning back on a summer day at the water.

Something I've noticed, and is sort of a paradox, is that with most models if they are too relaxed, the image looks too casual, almost like a snapshot. If they are too posed or if the pose is too extreme or unnatural, it looks tense. I therefore usually go for the in-between - not too relaxed, just slightly bold and extreme.

On a side note, I have a friend who when shooting models takes a very hands-on approach, posing the models exactly the way he wants. It can work if the model's very experienced and can still make it look relaxed, but to me it injects a lot of tenseness.

Btw... totally agree on the eyes. Something doesn't look right here... I think she's squinting her left eye a tad. I could probably fix this, but am not sure this image is a keeper.

Armando - She's looking where other photographers were, so that's a definite possibility. However, I also asked her to look into the distance on a few shots, so there's no tellin'. I'm not seeing the puddle, but I believe that 'shine' is suntan lotion I guess it wasn't evenly applied to both legs...
