Love those blue hues! Number 1 is smoother to the eye overall. Number 2 might almost be too busy but it's such a great reflection and has such popping color I soon forget what I though was busy about it at all. Beauties MB I am sure either will fetch you some attention at the market this weekend.
Speaking of, do you do numbered editions of the prints you sell at Eastern Market or do you just keep them seasonally appropriate and rotate your inventory with new stuff and favorites?
RE: the photos. Normally I don't plan or previsualize what I am going to shoot but I have been thinking about that first image for a couple of months and just needed the right sky and wind conditions. It was a fairly long exposure (to get the silky water look) with what is for me a small aperture (to get everything in focus). ISO 100 of course. Graduated ND filter and tripod with mirror lock-up. It came out exactly the way I wanted and after only a couple of test/setup shots.
Since I had plenty of time to kill I took the camera off the tripod, boosted the ISO, opened up the aperture and wandered around till I got the second shot.
As far as selling these-I am skipping the market for the summer but I don't offer limited editions, just have a nice inventory and replace what sells. I don't do a lot of seasonality as tourists seem to buy pretty much any good image any time of the year. The locals are a little bit more choosy but do tend to buy the larger stuff. I likely sell more pieces to tourists but I make more $$$ off the locals.
Both are very good, but I like #1 for it's colors and serene appeal. Also, what I like is the open feeling of it as I can see under the bridges arch to the horizon.
The 2nd is fine but does not have that glowing electric quality of the first in comparison.
I like the first one but they are both good, is it me or is the horizons dipping right?
No, I think that is just the river taking a big right turn on the right side of the image and that shore is several miles away whereas the shore we see directly in front of us is less than a half mile away.
I think it looks like Venice (Italy). The color is so intense I wonder if they're 100% unaltered? The top one is cleaner, as the bottom one reminds me of the Anacostia a bit.
hey MB, you sure spend a lot of time around the center part of the DC area. Have you made it out to different areas, like Georgetown, Roslyn, C&O, Adams Morgen, etc? Maybe even to Harper's Ferry. The tow path to there is really really neat this time of year. Maybe a lot of great photo ops waiting for you.

I shoot all over the area. I am pretty sure I have posted some of my Gettysburg Battlefield images here. But mostly the stuff I post here is taken on my morning commute in from Georgetown to Downtown DC because that is what sells.
