The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy

The photo is not sharp because the shutter speed was 1/10s. Welcome your views.

I get a sense of great monotony from this. The position of the woman looking on also conveys a sense of forced labor (even though it may not be). The blurry hands add to the feeling of toil.

BTW: love the Tim Burton reference.

Iguanamom, Thanks for the analysis. Are you a big fan of Tim Burton? The book is always one of my favorites. It is very inspiring and sad.

Hi Herriot, The colour version is a bit common. The original lighting is tungsten.

Still have the book and pull it down to read about Match Girl and Stick Boy and Stain Boy and the rest. Classic. I wish he'd do more, but he's too busy making movies for Johnny Depp.

I like the shot Yoyo. You've documented something that's probably been done the same way there for thousands of years, those plastic bowls being the only modern substitutions. I like thinking that with all the modern technologies, some things are most sensibly done the way they always have been. I think the softness adds to the motion and character of the piece.
