    Re: Matchbox

I like this one much better.

2 things, the matchbox would be better if it was lit more and the perspective of the window pane throws the symmetry off for me.

    Re: Matchbox

I see it as a piece of glass that is unique.hahaha. The slight difference makes me look again, again. The texture is way cool, the natural lighting can't be beat.Possibly lighten the matchbox for a touch of detail.Sweet/simple. Nice work.

B.t.w. Thanks for your feedback, great advice.I appreciate that !!

    Re: Matchbox

Thanks for the comments Tim and Rick. I wondered if the distortion would be a distraction for others. I have corrected it and lifted the shadows a little.
Rick ~ The texture of the windows, the sweet light, plus the contrast of colors between the sill and the matchbox are what made me want this shot. Thanks for noticing.

    Re: Matchbox

    CL -

It and the other one are definitely the artistic, make-you-think type of shots. What I find wrong here is that the actual matchbox is just so dark. I also really dont see any relationship between a matchbox on a window ledge, with or without the fairly strong pattern effect of the windows. HOWEVER... I do consider it a worthy post. These type of shots are simply not always 'sure hits' as are (cliche) pretty sunsets and what not. It's OK to experiment with these... it forces one to consider composition and lighting a lot more than in a typical shot (if any shot is typical). It can open new perspectives.

    Re: Matchbox

CL, I like the mood of the original darker version. One does not have to see the entire matchbox to know what it is. The fact that the light was dim and moody is what i liked about the shot. I do feel the adjustment in the windows works well, but I say bring back the dark. This is a good shot overall, and I like the subject. This may work very nicely in a series as well.

    Re: Matchbox

i like the second one better. have you tried selective coloring? I think it could work well for this image, making the only colored thing the matchbox?

    Re: Matchbox

Tel - Thanks for taking the time to compare and comment.

GB - Thanks for considering this one. It was a found moment, in the bathroom of a friend's house. I don't know what the relationship of the sill and the matchbox is but let's suppose they don't like the smell of air freshener... I don't know. I was completely romanced by the light in that room and had to go back downstairs to get the camera. Luckily I have very indulgent hosts.

Gary - Thank you for commenting here. It was the colors of the matchbox vs. the sill that caught my eye. I did pull the matchbox out of the shadows to the edge of the sill before I took this and hoped a viewer would be able to see it for what it is. I'm glad to hear you favor the darker version, I do too, but for the sake of experimentation I like to follow through visually with the suggestions I get here.

Brent - Thanks for the idea. I hadn't really thought about it since it was the color contrast I wanted to show. I may give that a spin as well and see how it comes out.
