    Marylebone High St abstract

    Hello,

Shot this on film a little while ago now, but only recently got around to scanning it and adding it to my site. It was a shop window on Marylebone High St, and although I don't often work in colour, this really shouted out to me:

    Thanks for looking,

    matt

I, too, like the colors as well as the three layers in the shot - it took a lttle while before I noticed the building across the street. I kinda wish for the bottom of that red lamp. I also wonder how it would look with the lamps in focus and the lettering out.

    Good catch Matt.

Thanks Chunk, I think there was a reason I cropped as tightly as I did, but I forget what it was now! Multiple layers in a shot can be fun to mess around with, I may have another look next time I'm in the area. I do wish that the 'n' and 'r' of 'century' hadn't got lost against the background, but I couldn't do much about that.

Nicely layered abstract with the "@" coming into focus last (for me) and bringing everything together.

Great concept, and a nice abstract. Definately works with the lamps, and nice layering work.

I agree with Chunk here in that the bottom of the red lamp would help. I find this shot too busy. If it were only the lamps in the store display, I think then it would allow the layers to be at peace. But with the other object in the right side window and the vertical pole behind it, I feel like everything is competing for attention.

Tuna, Jared, Gary - many thanks for commenting.

Gary, I think I let the red lamp wander out of frame partly because I wanted to avoid the composition looking too carefully composed. The closest way I can describe it is to think of a Pollock type painter throwing the colour on the canvas and then deliberately letting it run. It may not be a complete success, but it is the only shot of this type that I have taken so far, and it feels fun enough to make me think I'll try something similar again some time.

    Cheers
