    Low tide

Not sure what you call these things but I suppose they are there to stop sand erosion.

Isn't it a cool thing in nature that the colours never seem to clash...

Love the warmth of the colors. The green pops well. Good shot!

I like the texture of the algae and all that, but I'm not sure how the two walkers fit into the image. Some good 'ole seagulls maybe, or even someone sitting on them would work in my opinion.

    They're called Groynes.
I think the walkers fit in well, but I'd prefer them walking (strides visible) rather than standing.

Thanks Amanda, n8, and Paul. Guess timing is everything with getting the stride right.

    Re: Low tide

It has some nice elements, esp the sky but also the angle of the wall columns and algae. While the walkers don't really fit in, visualizing the image w/o them I really don't think it would make it a more interesting photograph leaving them out.

Shots like this are tougher than they appear. There simply aren't many objects on a beach to use in a photograph, just sand, fence, sky, sun and shadow. Simplicity often rules. I've spent so many early mornings on beaches like this on the east coast. I find composition is your # 1 concern, then lighting. People can help if you can use them to create a mood, say contemplating something, bundled up against the cold and/or wind, and so on. An emotional shot is the way to go, maybe..
