Low Altitude Pass With Ground Effect

    Hello Folks,

I haven't been around the website much of late what with a new grandson, holidays, family time, etc. But, on a recent walk around Kumeyaay Lake, at Mission Trails Regional Park (see Facebook page) I captured this of a great white egret.

Hope all of you are well in 2012.

This is an excellent shot. The only thing that I could be really picky about is I wish the water could have been smoother so that we could have seen the reflection better. But other then that, fantastic shot. What lens and camera body were you using?

I rather like how the reflection kind of fades out due to the waves.

    Thanks Levi and fooshee.

And here I thought the rippling texture of the water added something extra. All in the eye of the viewer, I suppose. I appreciate the comments none the less.

I used the Canon 7D with the 70-300 "L" series lens. Conditions were bright and sunny, mid-morning so the lens was fast enough to capture the speed of the egret. Although, it was on a slow cruise so this was not a real demanding speed issue.

    Thanks again.

I have to agree with Fooshee here, i really like the fade effect in the reflection.
Is it me or is the focus point just behind the neck rather than the head?
    Overall great shot, beautiful bird.

    Ctn,

Thanks for leaving a comment. I will have to look at the original image to see where I caught the focus; moving bird, shooting 8 fps, I may have caught the neck rather than the face/eye.

    Thanks again.
