    Losing Battle

I shot this today with a Nikon D300s and 80-400mm lens set @ 300mm, ISO 800, f/13, 1/800 spot metered. This is a crop. Your comments and suggestions are appreciated.

    Re: Losing Battle

I think this is a great wildlife shot.
I love how the bird has the crab in its beak and the crab has the bird's beak in its claw.
I'm betting the bird wins though.
Crab is a bit out of focus but hardly an issue.

I agree its a great shot. It might be more motion blur than missed focus.

I believe you are right, Greg. Its motion blur and not focus.

Great, uh, catch. Not sure if anything can be changed for the better. Crab out of focus is what it is. Doesn't really matter.

I am wondering if the bird's eye is a little soft, as well. But again, it doesn't really lessen the impact.

Nice catch. I think I'd leave a little more space in the lower right side, but really ... Nice timing!

    Re: Losing Battle

    Wonderful shot!

The way it is cropped, it suggests to me that the heron is the starring character with the crab in the supporting role. I think that a different crop would reverse the roles.

Besides, I can just imagine the crab saying, "Heeeeeeellllllll nnnnnnoooooo!"

The two shots as a sequence make a great story

    Tough crab !

2nd shot looks sharper, great timing on both

Fantastic. The crab fools me into thinking that the image may be a tad too sharp, because it is so contrasty. But maybe that is an optical illusion.

Really great shot, in any case. No other suggestions or complaints.

    Re: Losing Battle

Reminds me of the well known drawing of the heron trying to swallow a frog and the frog has its hands around the herons neck. Tittled Never Give Up or something like that.
    Love both shots.
