    Re: Long Pier

I agree with Frog. The ship is a nice added bonus. I am sure it would show up better in print but have you tried to lasso it in PS and make it just a touch larger? I did this with the moon once and it worked.

    Re: Long Pier

did not think about that Greg, thx I'll look into it..of course at that distant it wont have much definition. Do you all think the b/w just doesn't have enough in pic to carry it?...I kind of like it not too much over the top

    Re: Long Pier

I think the B&W is nice but I prefer the color edit. Not to much bigger with the ship just a very small amount. It was just a thought and something I might would have tried.

The first one is it for me. Love the color of the water and all the action in the water and sky.

    Very well done.
    No, I DON'T need that.

    Re: Long Pier

Thx Gary..I spent an hour working on a similar shot with less angle, walked away..came back and shooed my 5 year old away from the computer..(hes very computer literate)..saved the pic too quickly.. only to find out he burned a big W thru the middle. Then I found this one and liked the angle better anyway.

    Re: Long Pier

I'd say this is an all or nothing situation, that is either the highly saturated shot (my fav) or the B&W (my #2). There are a lot of interesting colors and tones going on here (especially in the sky and water splashing on the shore) and you don't really get the full effect of either in the 2nd shot.

I love the composition of this shot, I feel like I am in motion when I look at it, like I am running towards the shore end of the pier, circling around the end of pier in the sky and then riding a wave back to shore. My eyes get pulled in that order. I don't think I even saw the upper left hand corner of the shot.

I could take or leave the boat, but it certainly doesn't detract from the rest of the scene and is kind of a cool bonus visual if you look at it long enough.

    Very Nice!

These are great WA shots! I like the first one - and the one with the larger boat. Your composition and lighting are excellent.

    What lens/camera are you using?

    Re: Long Pier

Thanks to all for your great comments.
Much appreciated Jim R..I have been shooting semi serious for 1 year now..most of that compo is from what i learned here.
Thanks Lori, this is just south of Ft lauderdale on the Atlantic side. My biggest worry here was getting too garish with the color.
Dumpy, your hired for press agent!..seriously though I take a lot of time with small details on my pics. Love the appreciation.
Hi Liz, this one was with a Nikon D80 and a nikon 2.8 10.5mm fisheye..leveled to reduce distortion and then lens corrected in cs3..followed by a crop to give the natural wide angle look. Glad you like it. Check out my new web site everyone..nothing serious yet but at 45 I thought I would make some of it available. Rod

    Re: Long Pier

I was wondering if that was fisheyed, but i was like naw thats just wide angled and the waves are making it fisheyed....then i saw it. heh, I love the first one, there is such a wide array of color. The clouds around the sun caught my eye, the orange/pink. amazing shot!

    Re: Long Pier

Rod - They are really nice. I like the geometry, vanishing pt, etc. They do create some mood but, .. not sure. They almost seem like paintings. I think they have an over-processed look that disqualifies them as natural shots, but they don't have enough processing to qualify them as art / fantasy images. They're sort of stuck between two worlds.

    So much for my opinion

    GB

PS- If they haven't been processed, let me know that too
