Hi Paul - It's sort of a contrast. The person here doesn't really look lonely, just deep in thought. But the suit says that they're busy racing. It doesn't seem to me that the person's alone or anything.

Anyways - I would like it better if he or she was facing the camera. Whenever someone has their back to the camera, it really cuts out a lot.

I like the back view, with the body posture this person is showing just makes your imagination work, is he grinning to himself, crying, smiling? Did you take this shot at a slighly higher position than the subject? if so thats worked for me as well.

Yes, I was on a 30 foot bank (so above the catch fencing) on the outside of turn 1.
He's on his way into the pits, head down, probably thinking of what he's going to say to the team. So I doubt he's smiling having put the car in the gravel.

I can't think of anything other than lonely in this walk back to the pits having put your car in the gravel. That's the only reason for a driver to be walking through the gravel trap. You're out of the race, a driver without a car. You have plenty of time as you walk back to consider your error, and devise an explanation (excuse) for your team boss.

Given he crashed to my left this was all I could get, sorry.
I tried next day from the other side of the track, and while I would have got the front of his helmet, the fence is too high to photograph the cars racing.

Obviously some non racing fan comments, but that's good to get too!

Now I like this one, for the very reason that the driver is walking away, both figuratively and literally! With the head down and 'knowing' he is or is about to pull off one and then the other gauntlet, the photo just says dejection and frustration!

But then again, maybe you need to have seen a few 'incidents' to fully relate.

The dandelions and the color of the helmet are a nice extra!
