    Lone Tree Hill

Thought about going a bit wider to enhance the fact that this tree is all alone on its hill, but the tighter crop appealed more

    Re: Lone Tree Hill

I like the simplicity of the scene. I would perhaps shave off just a little bit of the sky - but some of the cloud action seems to be toward the top ...returning with the more "golden" light or very early in the morning might be good as well. Nice.

Great subject and that fence on the hill top adds to the scene.
I'd like to see it composed with you more to the left so the tree is separated more from the hill and if you took it from standing position, I think a lower angle would work better.

The clouds in this look great. I love that the hill almost seems to have steps on it which each cast a shadow along it.

Thanks IIewpics, unfortunately this area was in deep shadow not long after this shot so not an option
Thanks Frog, hadn't occurred to me to get a bit lower.
Appreciate the comments John & Kiwi, the steps are made by sheep grazing the steeper slopes.

    Re: Lone Tree Hill

    Pete,

I will have to take the reverse opinion of the others and say that I really don't see anything in this one. The light is way too harsh (was it mid-day?), the sky really isn't interesting, the angle's a bit plain, and the composition can't compensate. To make it really seem like a lone tree, I think you will need a bigger perspective to show the viewer that there's no other trees around.

Try again at sunrise or sunset. Perhaps silhouette the tree against the sun.

    I agree with GB1.
The light could/should be much better. That green is too harsh.
And I would like to see the rest of the fence, you only give us half.
