    London at Night

Hi all .. this is one similar to one I posted in Viewfinder, except this one is from the other side of Trafalgar Square and when there was a little more light still in the sky.

For those who haven't seent hat thread, the tree is the national Christmas tree donated each year by the people of Norway. The building on the left is the National Gallery.

As always, any comments are appreciated.

    Cheers

Only thing I'd change is the Christmas tree being cut off on right. Don't know if you could pull back any further.

Thanks frog - I just knew that the first person to comment would mention the tree on the right In fact, I can't pull it in any more. Immediately to the right of the tree is a church which is entirely covered in scaffolding at the moment.

Mike. I saw this shot in the thread on the view finder and loved that one. This image is good, but as Frog pointed out, i feel it is a bit too tight on the tree. the other one has more wiggle room in that regard. also, I really like the electric illumination of the sky in the other offsetting the golden colors of the lighted fountain and building. This is nice, but the other is much stronger for me.

Gary - on reflection I agree with you. Here is the Viewfinder one again .. with a few modifications (straightened building on the right, cloned out flag which was behind the fountain spray). My club does a series of Projected Image competitions - this is the kind of thing which does well in that.

The second one is much better, not only for having the entire tree but also the sky is a much better color. Shot a few minutes after the first I assume.......
    No, I DON'T need that.

    Didache,

I really enjoy night photography and this is great. You have a solid exposier with each touchy area well balanced. From the sky to the dome to the lights to the underside of the upper tier of the fountain, all is well. Very nice.

CF makes some really good points; you've done a really nice job with the exposure and balancing everything together.

I'll also cast my vote for the second version. I guess my only (small) concern is that you have three strong areas in your shot: the tree, the fountain, and the building. Each competes somewhat for attention, but that's a pretty minor critique.
