Mmmm, there is certainly a lot going on and with the yellow sign being so bright and not the primary focal point I find I have to search for the main subject in the scene. Have you thought about a B&W for this?

I feel this is a bit busy Roger. Sometimes busy can be good as I enjoy scanning through a busy picture picking out different details.
In this case maybe the Lock mechanism deserves a feature on its own as what is behind seems a bit muddled.

    Hi Roger,
It is an intriguing shot. The lines in different directions make the photo interesting. I just wish the focus were on the yellow-black sign.

Roger .. I think you really need something in there to catch the eye - a subject of some kind. As it is, the eye is drawn inevitably to the yellow sign, but that is not sharp.

    Cheers

    Tom, Herriot, Mike, Yoyo,

Glad you all agree and I see what you mean, so these are some of the other views I took.

So do any of them work better?

I just wish I had more time as I was waiting for my time to lock out, and it resulted in a mad dash to the boat.

Number two for me Roger because it shows us what a simple but wonderful science these locks really are.

I like the last one. Not being a sailor. It gives me a since of what I am looking at with the boat in the background

I'm still undecided, Roger. Each one has me looking everywhere to see what's going on.
