nice framing , but the picture looks of poor quality mabey because of bad lighting, i would say over exposed 1 fstop

Thanks for the comments - which are appreciated. I have compressed the picture quite a bit - but its interesting you mention over exposure because the criticism normally attributed to the Minolta X20 is that it produces slightly underexposed pics in good light. It was sunny with some cloud cover - possibly my Olympus C40 zoom would have produced better results but the x20 is take anywhere snap away quickly cam.

I was amazed to discover that the more expensive minolta xt produces far worse underexposed pics at £100 more !

Not a bad shot, but that rail is almost dead center, which is kind of unappealing... move it over a little more to the left next time and I think this will look better... and I know it was suggested that this was over exposed by a half stop, but I actually think it's a bit underexposed... I do some real estate stuff with a digital minolta and it always blows the sky out like it has in this pic. I look forward to seeing more from you.

I agree. I'd prefer to see this shot from just a few feet to the left with the same focus. Not only to knock the rail out of the center (and maybe remove some of the busy details on the right side), but also to change the perspective on the black metal thing(?). It has no shape from this view and distracts more than it adds for me.

I like the color and don't notice any signifigant over-exposure other than a blown out sky (and I'm not sure you have many choices under those conditions).

cheers folks. Thanks for the views. I agree when I got back home that the handle in the foreground needed to be out of sight or shifted slightly - I call myself a snap photographer - see a view (interesting shot) snap and go ! your comments help to perfect this style and make you think constructively in a short time. I find my Olympus D40 zoom produces more cheerful colours and the Minolta Dimage has a more bluish tint to it ...I like the D40z results better - but is it more accurate ? Anyone else have a view on the Minolta ?

I have a view on the Minolta, but it is rather bleak I'm afraid. The Minolta Dimage 7i, which is what I use for my real estate pics, just isn't a camera I would choose. It was given to me by the company and they requested that I use it. I like a couple aspects of the camara, but not enough to redeem it in my eyes. I prefer my DSLR and my film SLR... and I think I'll be giving this camera to my mother when I'm finished. *smile*

The main point in taking pictures is to have fun and it seems you are having fun and coming up with some decent pics. I hope to see more from you.
