    Little Solders

A bit of macro fun testing my Tamron SP AF90mm 2.8 Di..I shot my 580EX flash through a white umbrella at 45deg to the subject..These carved soap stone chess pieces are about 1 1/4" tall..

Cool shot! For some reason, I think that I would have focused on the piece second from right. I just seem to keep moving back to that piece while I am looking at your shot. Just a personal preference thing, I guess.

If you notice,,each piece is different as they are hand carved..It also varies from set to set..

    Lovely photo,

they are absolutely wonderful and I would love to own a set like this - haven't played chess in years.

Gives me the feeling of ranks of soldiers behind this lot ready to take the charge. Lovely colouring on the set.

Jurgen,I like the sympathetic background colour.
The turning of the second pawn from the left to face the camera is a very nice touch.
I find the focus on the left creates a tension in the image; I want to follow along the line of the pieces, but then it goes out of focus my eye returns to the left 1/3 and then wanders across again - was that deliberate?

SmartWombat,,I turned and focussed on the guy 2nd from the left so your eye is drawn to him...I spose the guy far left just got in the way...

These chess sets are available in the markets all over Laos for around 25USD if you bargain..
