Very secluded in the middle of nowhere feel to this shot. The bright light bothers me a bit though. It masks all the detail out of this shot. Also would love to have seen what the the track looks like behind you.

Awesome Michael...I really like the way the position of the sun causes the trees to be silouhetted and then the starkness of the lit tracks really sets everything off...I love it...

Saw this on my way home tonight.
Thought or comments?
MJS, I am trying to figure out if the picture would be stronger with the sun totally cropped or not and I can't make my mind rigth now. I find the sun to be interesting and distracting at the same time. That being said, I really like your idea here, this is a clever catch and it works well.
On a side note, there is some lense flare here (which is very hard to avoid in these situations). The flare itself isn't much of a concern to me but I was thinking that it might have worth to point your camera a little lower to take this picture. This would have excluded the sun and it might allow to entierly avoid flare if you have an hood on the lense.
Seb, I know what you mean about the flare. The way the shot was originally taken, the flare wasn't noticable. I intentionally underexposed the image to silouhette everything but the light on the tracks, but that seemed a little boring, so I boosted the exposure just a bit during post processing to get a bit of detail in the FG. Not a lot of detail there, but not completly blocked up either. The more I lightend the image, the more the flare came out. The final image was a compromise between a bit of detail, and a bit of flare.
I have a couple more shots like this I will mess with later. It's time to jump on the Harley and go for a ride.

MJS, like I said, I am not really distracted by the flare, its basically something that can show up with any lense depending on the lighting. On a side note, which model of Harley do you own? I am not really into motorcycles (I never drove one) but I have some interest. I really like the current Buell's.
We just got back from our ride. A beautiful day in these parts to get out and putts along the back roads. This is my favorite time of year to ride. Not too hot, not too cool, and the Autumn smells in the air are wonderful. I can't wait for the leaves to start turning so I can go on a nice long color ride. I have a 1999 Softail Custom, in cobalt blue pearl. It looks more purple than blue tho. My girlfriend and I drove to Tinley Park, Illinois (just south of Chicago) last weekend and picked up a 2002 Honda Shadow VLX Deluxe 600 for her to ride. Here is a pic of my bike. I haven't taken the Shadow out for a photo shoot yet.
I'm a bit of a fan of the Buells myself. The low end torque is great, but I don't like the low RPM limit. I don't mind it on my bike, but just not what I think of when I think sport bike.

Ha - this is really abstract! It if wasnt for the title I might not know what to make of it. Too bad the sun is there, or the viewer maybe not be able to tell (change that title too - it gives it away).
