Yeah, I am sorry that is the case Paula. This one is actually pretty true to what the thing actually looked like. I suspect people (not that anyone actually looks) do not believe that I am striving to re-create what I see, but much of the time that is the case. It is just that in very low general light with lots of bright back lighting and such it isn't easy for us cave men to do so. This one is truer than some. Yeah it is bright. Yeah it is highly textured, but that is EXACTLY what it looked like. And in this case I avoided losing the color fidelity in the bright spots as I often do.
I am struggling with this stuff, and there does not seem to be a lot of HDR specific advice.
But I personally think that learning more about general photography techniques will only help in HDR. Or so I keep telling myself.
Normaly I do not like HDR but in this it works brilliantly and I like it a lot.
However two minor critique:
1, Composition - it would have been nice to see more of the candle in the mirror but sometimes you have to take what you get. I think for that you would need a different mirror. The frame looks good in this so it may not work.
2. On the right edge of the mirror there seems to be some blown out highlights which I find distracting - if these could be toned down a tad it would make it that much better.

Yeah my composition opportunities were somewhat limited. This is right near the reception desk and anything from the mirror would have captured clients checking it. I did not want to make them nervous, cause you know, you don't want to be seen checking into the rits. Very seedy...
