    Lexus Steering Wheel

I know I know, another tight crop. I had the dumb idea that I could shoot indoors with my 50 mm f1.8 and I wish I had brought my 28-70. Tight crop, but I love the colors and DOF.

    Feel free to critique.

While a nice enough photo, I suspect the steering wheel and gauges look much more opulent in real life. The DOF kind of focuses on the most platicky, generic part,.

Focus problem. If the steering wheel is the frame then both it and the dials should have been in focus. Even a slightly soft steering wheel and sharp dials might have worked.
Another option would have been using a built in flash on some cameras underexposed, to give a bit more focus to the steering wheel and yet still keeping the dials sharp.

    Re: Lexus Steering Wheel

Batting 0/2 so far on my car shots! I do have one with the dials in focus, however, the lights they had set up was really distracting off of the out of focus steering wheel.

Ronnoco, I couldn't use my flash because it left shadows due to my lens hood. I realize it would've worked but wish I had a "real" flash! Thanks again!

Ooh K ay....I'll bite! Why were you using a lens hood? You were shooting inside and I assume you were not dealing with lens flare problems, no?

    Ronnoco,

Habit I guess. I was originally concerned with light flaring (they did have some crazy light set up on these vehicles) but I didn't notice any problem, though I didn't try any without the hood. I guess it's just a (bad) habit sometimes

Im a big fan of car shots, I think in this pic, the fact that the steering wheel is in focus while the guages aren't makes it. imo.

No kidding eh? So many mainstreams gauges seem SO cliche! You'd think it would be quite easy to spice it up a little
