    Leaning Tree Trunk

Experimenting with my new circular polarizer.

This was at a botanical garden:

    Heavy saturation in PS.

    Opinions?

Eric, interesting picture. Until I read your title, I didn't think about the "lean" of it. I see it now.

You were evidently close and personal with a wide angle. While it shows the trunk detail fine, and angle doesn't convey the unusual tree position here. Is it possible to shoot again from a different position?

I was going to reshoot today but I left my polarizer at home :mad2:

How do you feel about the color and temperature? It's my first time with a polarizer but I still had to bump the saturation in PS.

Got any polarizer tips for me?

    Thanks.

As shot, the color looks accurate and the sky is not over-polarized so that it looks nature as well.

If you want deep, dark skies with the polarizer, remember that the effect is maximized when the sky you are shooting is 90 degrees to the sun. Make a "pistol" shape with your index finger and your thumb with the thumb pointing to the sun. As you rotate your hand around the thumb, you can see the plane of maximum effect.

    Thanks!

I have a few more at the monthly photo project forum. I'm not too happy with the focus on the others. It was a bit windy. I now see why people use manual focus....you can't always rely on auto focus. I've started manual focus myself.

About 95% of everything I have shot in the past 3 months have been manual focus / manual exposure. Maybe it's just my old 10D, but I still find manual focus to be better than Canon's Even for flying birds, flying dragonflies, ...
