    leaf this moth alone

this picture was shot by my sister with her nikon d50,and just started out in taking up photography, but way too shy to post her shots herself no matter how much nudging i do,so hopefully if you all don't mind giving your pointers on this image, for me to pass along, i know how its frowned upon by showing others work, its just hard to critize your own familys work.but she did email me the image.

    Hi Pb,
Well the shot has a lot of things which could be improved, but let's face it, so have all our photos and we all started somewhere.
To start with as you can see, it's a bit out of focus, and a bit dull.
The out of focus could just be because your sister was too close or perhaps a better camera is needed for such shots.
However pre-processing can improve it a little.
I've done an edit on the shot so your sister can see how a photo can be improved by such treatment.
It's not any kind of definitive edit, just to show what can be done, neither do I claim to be an expert, and no doubt others would have their own ways of doing it.

Above all tell your sister to keep taking photos, a VERY large number of all the shots I take go straight to Data Heaven via the Delete button!

so true,i will snap about 15 to twenty pics on one subject, thinking they are all good, but always find a flaw on something and delete them right from the camera, and only end up downloading about 3 or four of the better ones, thanks for your comments, and not judging me by uploading another person photo.

The flash seems to be a little much, at least in the edit. Try a slightly different angle to remove the leaf as the BG and reduce the harsh light, as well as show the eyes or face of the subject.
