    Leaden Sky

High grey overcast and some fast moving cumulus clouds gave the sky this texture yesterday

Isn't it a cool thing in nature that the colours never seem to clash...

Did you use high bypass thing in photoshop? If so, no need to use it to sharpen photos. just do the unsharp mask. slightly. I agree it's a bit too much.

I love the scene though. I wish we can see a bit more of the fence, less sky and more normal look.

Thanks Av and Liban, guess I've seriously over cooked this one I was trying to get the snow covered volcano in the back to stand out a little more.

    Pete -

More than oversharpening, seems like one to many effects were added? Regardless, the pic looks a bit flat to me and it doesn't appear that any amt of processing could save it.

But yes, I do think the snow-covered mtn, country foreground and clouds are nice actors in the scene. I wish I could suggest how one could pull them all together to make this one even better than it is, but I run into the same challenge when I am shooting: a lot of potential, but the angle, lighting and everything else just isn't ideal. If I figure it all out, I will share the secret

Thanks for your thoughts Greg, I guess photoshop is not really some sort of photographic philosophers stone...

How does it look without the "HDR" effect? I don't know if that is the effect, but it almost looks like an HDR photo.

    Re: Leaden Sky

Pete - It isn't a bad shot, though I think my earlier critique made it appear to be. It's just compressed, maybe because you used a telephoto lens? Hey, just realized what this one reminded me of: a quilt design of a traditional countryside. Maybe it's that time of the year.

I like the scene, maybe I may just have pointed the camera a touch lower

I agree on the over processed look
