Swans on the Inlet

Hey,
Another shot I had caught the other day of these Swans.i like the action of the Swan spreading it's wings as I had waited patiently for a while for one of them to do something.I like how the background looks behind these birds on the water. I'm finding out that my 300 mm zoom is not nearly enough for me here as there are Egrets and Herons but I can't get close enough for them. I might just have to lay out the bucks for a 5 or 600 mm lens (ouch)as I think I really enjoy this wildlife shoots. Your comments appreciated . . .

I like this a lot and it is a departure for you from your normal type images. I really like that you had the patience to wait for a little action form your subjects. I way to often get over anxious and just start firing away. The element I like the best in this image is that each of the swans has struck a very diferent pose and that your placement of the main subjects in the frame makes for a very pleasing composition. Nice work.

I am not sure about this one. I find the colour a bit dull (may be it is the contrast).

i dont know so much about this one, i think the birds blend in to much with the background

The colors really don't bother me too much, as it's more about what's in the foreground than the background... but something about the middle swan's posture is bothersome to me. Sort of jolting to the eye, for lack of a better description. Of course, that's subjective... we're all used to having swan photos being calm and subdued (as already noted), but in general there's too much tension here or something to that effect. Can't put my finger on it exactly.

I had posted a Swan pic a few weeks ago with a typical Swan pose...but this one just struck me as different and I like how this swans pose in the middle is Just love the shape of the wings and body and curvy neck. Interesting to hear a few different points of view on it. Thats what I like so much about this forum Thanks all for your time

A bit closer might have been more pleasing. And I agree that the light is a bit dull. Probably evening or morning would have provided more appealing / dramatic coloring... But, i do like the middle swan... cool pose.

I love this. The colors may be a bit dull, but I think that dull silver of the water adds to the picture. There's something mystic feeling about it to me.
