    Last of the creatures

Not really sure about these two. I kind of like them, but feel maybe I should have gotten more of the subject in both. With all the other distractions, and such, it was hard to capture the full subject though. Anyway, rip em up!! Ok, I added a third...

    Re: Last of the creatures

I like the sheep as is, the only thing that bothers me is the blackness at bottom right, other than its a good capture.

The Kangaroo needs his rump in the photo to balance it out

The Flamingo take the prize out of these three, I really like this, composition good, DOF good and colouring may need a little boost - just a tad, but I may be wrong on that.

    Hi Payn,

The sheep has great texture. I don't miss his back end from the shot I know it's there.

The kangaroo is also well done I like the blissed out expression on his face while he enjoys his salad.

The Flamingo was very cooperative to tie itself into a knot for you. But aside from the posture I like the reflections of the birds in the water which are beyond view.

Overall I think you did some good work at the zoo that day. You've done excellently at defining your subjects with composition and depth of field. Nice job.

Thanks. Who said I was at the zoo? I traveled to Asia, Florida, Australia, and many other places that day. I was tired when I got home...lol

    Your comments are appreicated.

    You are so silly!!

I like the sheep best too but don't need the 'roos butt to make him interesting (Roger is so darned demanding!). He's my second fave.

I do like the flamingo but in typical D fashion I would like him pinker, and more textured to show off those feathers.

    Re: Last of the creatures

payn. . .the sheep is the winner here for me. Excellent deep contrast creating a very artsy statement. I would have thought it better though if you had placed it a little higher in the frame so that it's head was in the dark area completely and just a bit of the legs start to show, and the straw hanging from its neck would be in its entire length in the frame. Nit piks though.
The Roo is fine, and i will agree with roger about including it's rear end, or cutting more of him out.
I am not crazy about the Flamingo shot because of the birds moment or position, the tag on it's leg and the dark bottom area and almost blown out highlights at the top.
Fine job at bringing back much more than typical zoo snaps (excuse me, Safari Express) with your creative compositions.

I'll agree with Gary - the sheep shot shows sure showmanship in your shkills.

(I'm an appreciator of well done barnyard portraits)

    Re: Last of the creatures

Thanks all for your input. I thought the day was a bust, and tried to save a few. It was 36 degrees, and drizzling/flurries, cloudy, just UGLY, not to mention I forgot a jacket, and after the 1.5 hour drive there, I wasn't going home empty handed!! LOL

I appreciate all your comments, and am finally starting to feel that I am coming along thanks to this great community. The sheep is probably also my fav, alongside the pandas (just posted one example, but have a few others),.

    Hi,
The high contrast and the wool make the sheep photo stand out. I also like the depiction of the sheep's expression. It is the expression of "nothing one can do" or "life is meaningless". To a certain extent, the destiny of the sheep is well expressed.

    Re: Last of the creatures

Great shots. I like the top two the best. The Roo is esp neat. I would have led him a little more on the right side, but great focus.

These photos sure show the life in these animals.........
