i think the guy needs lightened alittle, it took me a long while to actually see him sitting a way down in that corner. other wise it def held my interest.
Greg - I think you did remarkably well under some very challenging lighting conditions. Lightening the inside has created some noise, but that was inevitable I think and it does give it a gritty, late-evening feel. I think your top crop is just fine - it holds the top of the picture in which I think it wouldn't do if it was cropped down to the window. The cash-register (or whatever it is) in the middle is a little messy, but it was there so what can you do? On the other hand, the placement of the guy is perfect - sitting there on his own contemplating the world.
Taken as a whole, I think you've done about as good a job as most people could have done.
Thanks all, I am unsure if this is the same guy. But it is a different bar. Just down the street from the other. I will try and lighten up the guys face some. Mike, I liked the little neon glow at the top I thought it added to the framing. I also hoped the noise would add to the gritty feel. Shooting at higher iso's at night like this is a delicate trade off with motion blur.
I am like Barney Fife, I have a gun but Andy makes me keep the bullet in my pocket..
Greg - Decent angle and a nice combination of elements that wakes up the viewer. I must be a real nitpicker though, cause the vertical window frames at the 1/3 pts seem tilted to me, and doing a quick check I see that the left one is tilting about 1-2 degrees left. Jez, I wish I wasn't such a stickler on little stuff! As others have mentioned, there is grain. This might be removable using one of those grain eliminating programs (I think there's a few available in PS too as plug-ins). And I agree that the top area isn't needed. I would like to see some bottom brick or something though, so to give it the feeling of height. Overall though, good eye for opportunity.
