    Landscape sunrise

About 2 months ago I went hiking with a group of friends. On the second day I was thrown out of bed around 5 in the morning to watch the sun rise. When I saw it I grabbed my camera. The picture is made up of 8 shots with the camera held upright. I used Photoshops Photomerge without any additional editing (to be honest, I don't really know what to do with Photoshop, I mainly use Lightroom).

Any comments are welcome... I hope the panorama effect is not lost in the upload

Ooh nice. I want to see more detail in the dark areas though.

    Re: Landscape sunrise

Way to go getting up for the magic hour! Sunrise is one of my favorite times of day to shoot.

A graduated neutral density filter would have gone a long way toward making this a better photo. The GND filter would have allowed you to hold back the bright sky allowing the foreground to have more detail. Another technique would have been to take 3 exposures 2 EV apart and blend them with an HDR program such as Photomatix.

I agree with Canuck's and EOS' posts, a graduated ND filter or an HDR would really help to smooth out the photo's contrast. But it is still a nice image. I appreciate early morning sunrises myself

Thanks for the feedback. It never occurred to me to consider HDR. I don't know much about it but I've seen a number of pictures. I'll keep it in mind the next time I shoot a similar scene.
