    Lake shore

Processed using a layer of black and white combined with the color version

    Looks so sharp ... !

I guess the sky can use way less contrast, everything else looks fantastic

Excellent. nice composition. excellent hazy mountains in the distance and yes it looks very sharp. only critique is i wish it a little bit less reddish in the clouds. but then again, it might have been due to a low sun. very nice overall!

    Re: Lake shore

Excellent, indeed. The black and white layer really works well. As does just about everything in this photo, right down to the bird taking off to the left.

Nitpicking with a microscope (so to speak), there is a halo/white line around the top of the mountains, which is, most likely, from sharpening or web compression. And I would play around with the color of the sky, just to see how that effects the feel of the image.

What blending mode was the black and white layer set on?

    Re: Lake shore

    Thanks Liban and Seth

the layers work was done in GIMP,
b&w layer blended in "value" mode

Shot with the lowly nikkor 24mm F/2.8D lens
    1/320 f/5.6 ISO 100

I have to think what to do with the sky, is the part I like the least of the whole image

Good experiment Armando. I do like the effect. It has good texture and definition in the water. Not much to critique about it. GB

    Re: Lake shore

My only nit pick would be the cutting off part of the pelican flock, the birds are a big part of this. Otherwise great shot and technique.

Isn't it a cool thing in nature that the colours never seem to clash...
