    La Riviera Maya

does the hard shadow take away from this? what other things don't work for you?

I have other shots when a cloud rolled over and left everything soft, but the guy isn't there and I neglect humans in a lot of my phtography which i'm trying to change

    all feedback appreciated.

Great colours, but everything seems to be happening on the left of this one, I'm not sure if thats a good thing or not. I wonder how this would have looked a few steps to the right.
I like the story in this, for me it is the storms moving in from the left meaning the boats must stay on shore

Isn't it a cool thing in nature that the colours never seem to clash...

First, let me say that I like this, the strong colors, and anchor of the building contrasted by the relative monotone of the rest of the scene is great. That being said, I feel a little bit left out of the scene. I see the guy there and that's great, but it takes me a little while to find him...I wish I was closer.

I like it as is. The gent being far away doesn't bother me. Great colors, flows left to right. Just for fun you might smooth the sand out, removing the foot prints ect. I always wanted to do that. Good shot. As to your question, no the lighting is fine to me.

    hey pete,
i think i shot a couple from the angle that you want, but the building becomes centered and throws off the composition. thank you for the comment :-)

    Thanks Don!

hey Eos, yeah the composition is pretty minimalistic, i feel i just had to get the wide expanse , the skies and ocean in there for this to work. u're right though, it might have been better had i got in and concentrated on the guy. thanks!

hey greg, never thought about smoothing the sand, i'll definitely give it a try. thanks man!

also, i just noticed the strong tilt to this photo. i'll be on that.

I would not change a thing with this photo. You have so many elements that work and work well with each other on top of that. The sky/water/sand is a nice shot by itself. Add a great colored boat with a slight suggestion of that orange on the building. And the figure is brilliant, slightly slumped as a suggestion that nature is going to win. And the building looks fragile itself which reinforces the human element.
This is a really nice shot.

This is truly amazing. I would articulate a bit more white in the clouds of the upper left. I really think it would help, but the shot is stunning.

Liban; this is a very attractive image as it is. Of course if only those red boats were parked on the sand to the right things would perhaps be better because we would have full sight of the man descending the steps. The rendering of the sky and sea/surf is really excellent.

Love the colors and simplicity of the photo, it is good you have a person in the photo, something I usually also lack in my photography

    Re: La Riviera Maya

Very clean and simple! I like the negative space and the feeling it creates. The fellow there in the center adds to the shot, especially the way he is looking down... makes the photo seem more relaxed.

To critique this, besides the obviously (?) titled horizon, I would say that there is something slightly unsettling about the composition. I haven't read the others' postings to see if they mention it, but it just seems a bit too evenly balanced between sand and sky to the point where I can't decide where to look. That may not match the actual dimensions on the photo - the sky obviously has more image area - but it somehow still jerks my attention back and forth. Do you see it? Also, even though the house and boat is pretty much classically positioned at the 1/3rd pt, it also seems a little unsettling.. but maybe for another reason. The left side of the house is so dark maybe, and the boat so bright. Hard to figure this one out. But maybe that's a good thing, as mystery is what draws a viewer in sometimes.
