    Korean War Veterans Memorial

The Korean War is the first war I can remember as a child. Most of my uncles served then (my dad was in World War II). Vietnam was going on when I was draft age, I never knew for sure how to feel about that war but the Wall always hits home; even after going by it every day for years.

Anyway I have made a hobby of photographing the Memorials in DC. I have lots of nice shots but the Korean War Veterans Memorial never really photographed well for me. The memorial had a lot of nice elements, a striking wall, an unusual fountain and an amazing setting. For me there was something wrong about the figures dressed for winter placed in a green garden.

Early in the month I managed to make it to the Memorial just after a wet snowfall, much better.

Yep, #3 has it for me.
I like the composition of that line of soldiers, and the snow makes the image.

    Hey MB1,

I like the series. I really like the 3rd one. The weary expression and the snow on the troops with the ponchos really help me visualize what it may have felt like to be one of them at that time. I also like what you did with the DOF. A good capture.

My personal favorite is the 2nd one. The closeup of the soldier's face, with the snow on the helmet is a very powerful image. The perspective you used on the last one is very nice, too, almost like being in a foxhole looking up at the march going by.

You've done a wonderful job of capturing the respect and honor being given to those amazing men who did such difficult things for us. Every time I read about the winter fighting at the Frozen Chosin and other incredible campaigns from that war, I'm amazed that common men could persevere with such uncommon endurance and bravery. You've caught that feeling here and in your other shots of memorials. I wish a lot more people whose impressions of the Korean conflict are formed from M*A*S*H could see your shots.
