Great shot. The mood is great, it really speaks fun, fun!! The person looks like he's having a great time. I like it.

I thought about advising you to trim some off the top but the angle of the kite is pointing upwards to the skies & cropping any out wouldn't do justice to this pic.

Sorry, if I don't make sense I've had a "couple" of beers ;)

Edit: Hey! did you crop it while I was writing my drunk man words? lol

Love this shot, didn't know they had blue skies in London. A quick thought, put some light and color in the kite.

    Kelly,

And I thought you said you could not find anything to photo in London!!!

I like the composition but wonder whether the left hand side needs to be there? and would that make a better photo.I guess what I'm trying to say is that I find the tree on the left really nice but detracts from the chap flying the kite.

    Hi Kelly,
This is really a great shot and I like it a lot. I like the outline of the branches, the person, and the kite.
    All the best.

Really nice composition. I think the tree on the left is important to the shot, giving it more depth and a sense of place. The placement of the guy in that gap in the trees is perfect and I like the mostly silhouette exposure with only the sky having much color. Way above the average ' I went to London' shots.

Re: Kite Flyer in Hyde Park

This reminds of some Pink Floyd album cover or photograph I've seen somewhere. Yes, I'm a big Floyd fan.

Originally, I thought the tree needed to go. But after reading the other folks comments I looked at it with and without the tree to see what they were talking about and I DO actually think the tree might be helping this one but I can't explain why. I think not being able to see a distinctive kite string has something to do with it but I can't explain why.....anyone else feel this way?

Re: Kite Flyer in Hyde Park

Great composition, and as Chunk pointed out, the tree on the left adds a HUGE perspective/depth feel to this picture, which is definately why it's being praised. The nicely 'silhouette' feel is perfect, as you can tell it's a person, and yet the kite is still in color.

    Great picture,

    Jared

Re: Kite Flyer in Hyde Park

I think there are 2 photos here the one we have and there is hidden picture which is a crop removing the large tree which concentrates on the kite flier. Still holds the chap in between the 2 trees.

Trevor - the lines to the kite are unimportant in this picture as the grey matter adds them instinctively as we all know that kites have 1 or 2 lines to guide them, and the position of the chaps arms and the shape of the kite tells my grey cells that there are 2 of them whether I can see them or not.

Forgot - I did play around with the crop and both are great photos. Wouldn't mind seeing this as a sticky or photo of the week or whatever you call the photo that appears at the top for a while

Re: Kite Flyer in Hyde Park

Thanks for your responses! I revisited my London photos last night, and I really think that for my own personal, emotional reasons, I had to let some time pass before I could see them more objectively.

I will be posting more from my trip soon.

About this shot ... would you like to see the original uncropped version? I like the crop but I don't like the overall shape of the photo it creates.

Reading, I think you are right about there being two shots here. I think a squareish crop of just the man and kite would be lovely, too. I might post a crop like that when I get home tonight. Stay tuned.

Excellent for both photos - trouble is I cannot decide which I like better becuase they both envoke different feelings

Roger, I see what you mean! The first one emphasizes the smallness of the figure in the vast park ... almost a lonely feeling ... while the second one emphasizes the whimsical fun the guy is having, it's intimate, much more lighthearted.

Kelly, this is a good picture. It doesn't say London (somehow, it could have been shot anywhere) but the important thing is that the composition is pleasing. I think that I prefer the panoramic crop over the second crop but they both work in their own way.

I love the great silouette. And your right, a crop wouldn't have worked, I think you need the tree on the left in the frame to take away some of the blue sky. And this is one of the few times there is something to photograph in London. thats why i drive out of town!

    And finally...

I thought I'd post the original.

If you have an opinion on which one you like best, please tell me! I don't know which one to post in my gallery.

    Thank you for your help!

Kelly, I think this is an excellent shot and would not change a thing. The silhouettes are great, with deep dark tones and the sky with its puffy clouds and light, is creating this great mood. Your composition is fine here as well. great shot!

I with Gary on this the last is the better than the original crop but I like the crop which concentrates on the flyer too.
