Fischer's opening against black's arguably only defense - the modified mirror Fiancetto. I was bored during halftime of the game, I try and shoot ordinary things and make them look extraordinary so when I do get something nice to shoot I don't choke under pressure.

I am just beginning to taste what this image editing software is capable of.

I prefer the first shot, maybe crop out a bit of the top. Overall, a nice shot. I would love to see what it would be like if lit from under the board.

I like your approach here. definitely shot one for me also. I agree with Frog about fixing the misplaced pieces. I think the DOF works very well here so does the nice wooden texture. I like the overall look of it. I think i would've preferred it more had the background been more to the darker brown as in the top right corner.

That is caused by the lampshade. I'll see if I can make happen what you're talking about. Light the board the same way but not light the wall. Maybe some kind of diffusor/reflector on the backside of the lamp to block the wall.

The black(dark knight) on opposite side is the one mis-placed. You have it next to the queen.
Nothing to do with quality of photo but will drive chess players nuts.

I am going to offer this, the first shot with the light going diagonal across the wall works for me. If you had some one sitting there the right side of the person would be highlighted.

the knight has moved from its starting position (g8) to the sixth row (f6) as the third move of the modified, or option, depending on what circles you run in, fiancetto. the bishop comes from f8 to g7 on the second move after the telltale opening g7-g6.

the king/queen is driving me nuts. as much as I like this photo, I think I'm going to have to do it again. I used to play a lot of chess as a kid through high school, pretty successfully, but like most hobbies, I quit when it became tedious and not about the fun of it anymore. in retrospect, it has had quite an influence on the way I operate, and I'm glad I was smart enough to get out of the hobbies I did when I did. the one I have stayed in, cars, constantly drains the wallet in amounts ten times that of guys buying EOS 1D's and L lenses. it is still a bit fun, though...
