    Kiev - another scene

    Hi all

Another scene in Kiev (Ukraine) near the 'cave monastery'. There is just a hint of a major church in the golden dome peeking up over one of the arches, which are pretty ancient.

    Cheers

I think perhaps under not so harsh lighting but with that you made an excellent picture with what you had. Lots of detail. As always nice work.

I think this is well executed. I wonder what it would be like if the woman was closer to the bottom right corner.

I would have removed the brown manhole cover at the bottom of the picture. It's not very big but it distracts me.

Carry on posting photos of Ukraine. It's not far from me and it's a place I've been wanting to visit as a sort of warm-up for visiting Russia one day when I have more time.

Very nice composition and and interesting scene. I like the curved arches and processing. I would get rid of the rusted sewage cover in the front ...it does not seem to fit.

Wonderful , I like the golden cross between the arches, the woman on the sidewalk, and the general view of the street

Ditto on cropping/clonning the manhole cover.

Hmm.. We seem to have two different images here Mike. The cool contemporary architecture at the top, and the more down to Earth cobblestone and simply-dressed woman at the bottom. I really like the architecture, but might have moved a tad to block that small steeple from view. Kiev looks like a nice place, maybe I'll get to visit it one day.

    Re: Kiev - another scene

Thanks guys for your helpful comments. The manhole cover and some detail on the left could go, I agree. I attach a crop which also puts the woman more in the corner.

The bit of dome poking up was part of the 'concept' so I personally think it is important. The building on the right is a church, as is the building in the background with the dome. It is part of a complex of churches underneath which are caves which, for centuries, have been a monastery. We were allowed to go into a small portion of the caves - although most of them are off limits as it is still a working monastery.

    Cheers
