    Re: Just a Duck

Hi Emily, what I think is good here is that you have the duck swimming into the frame, and not out of it. The weak points for me on this is the ducks eyes and beak not lit well enough and therefore not standing out as they should. The lighting is coming from the left, behind the duck, and causing harsh light almost to the point of blow out on the tail feathers and behind the ducks neck.(also causing the dark side of the face and beak).
The typical standing point of view of this subject causes the pond to be the "background" and the ripples, reflections, and color of this background does not allow the subject to stand out well enough from it. I think having a different point of view and lighting angle would help alot here.

    Re: Just a Duck

i see two many ducks and swans to say any thing else other than yes its "just a duck" your title aptly describes it..

i used to point my camera at them but dont bother any more.. i think u know this anyway else why your title.. he he..

technically its okay.. and some folks might find ducks sailing past type pictures interesting but a female mallard is just to dowdy to catch my interest.. city folks who perhaps dont see quite as many of them as i do might see them a little differently thow..

still for what it is there is nothing that much wrong with it.. a nicely taken picture of "just a duck"..

    Re: Just a Duck

Trog & Gary...thank you for your thoughts on this. When I first took this, I really enjoyed the water's swirliness with the duck's color, but like you said Trog, yup...still just a duck...hehe. Ah well...maybe next one will be more interesting. Gary, the angle might be what makes the difference, as you said.

    Thanks again!
    Emily
