    Automotive photography

These are the most recent pics of my other hobby. I have nice compliments on these ones by a guy who has work with car magazines and i was told they were magazine worthy. Thats good and all but i prefer the opinions of the pros around here!

    Re: Automotive photography

I would think the first shot would absolutely be magazine worthy, spectacular job!
Second and third have something funky going on with the background reflection that makes it look like dents near where the front edge of the fender meets the bumper - certainly easy enough to fix in photoshop. All of these look exceptionally clean, like you spent hours detailing and prepping for the shoot - it paid off

    Re: Automotive photography

I think they need a bit more punch in the backgrounds. There are some great colors in the images however. The third image I see something coming out of the door ? It's a small thing but I would Photoshop out the logo on the windshield as well as the mini Trans Am and sticker on the window. There are some nice lights on the hood but the reflection on the windshield hurts it. The same great lighting does not extend back to rear of the car, But with no equipment to fix this I can't dock it too much. I own a '84 Trans Am !! I miss driving it but it's back home in Ohio right now. LA fuel costs would kill me lol.

Yep first three are very sexy, and frankly I noticed the background in the first one.

I really like #3 here, I think that composition is great, the position of the car. you've also chosen a really nice backdrop to shoot infront of. well done. they're all nice.

Love it! #2 Does it for me.

My only gripe is the front lower lip. I would have either removed it, armor alled it to get it black again, or photoshopped it out of the pictures.

From a fellow car guy, how bout some engine shots and list of engine goodies done so far.

    Re: Automotive photography

Two observations that I have that I think would improve the photos are the reflection on the windshield I think needs to go and to me parts of the car just blend into the background too much and need more contrast or separation between the car and the background, Jeff

    Re: Automotive photography

I love car photography and have done quite a bit, although I'm not that good. I think the first shot is excellent. The lighting is perfect, with no harsh reflections. Absolutely magazine quality, and I'm talking about the high-end mags, not the trash rags. Anybody remember Automobile Quarterly? My dad used to get those. They were hardback and had stunning photos in them. The first shot could definitely be in AQ.

As for the background, yes the rear end of the car does blend in a little bit, but to me that only serves to bring the viewer's eye to the front of the car and to that fabulous hood and the great looking wheels. I don't think the windshield reflection detracts from the first shot, although I do think it does from numbers 2 and 3. All in all, very good work.

#2 is my favorite, then #1. You have a good feel for angles - providing a good view of several sides of the car a once. They certainly do look ready to publish. As others have said, some of the reflections could be toned down.

Thanks for commenting on my photo below.
