I think he's right about the vertical crop vs the horizontal you have here. The apartments are a little interesting but the entire left side isn't doing much to draw you in. With a vertical crop it puts the guy and the sign more "in your face". The tree coming directly out of the center of the top of the sign is a wee bit bothersome too.
Something like this? I have tried a couple of times to catch him but he always seems to be out when the light is at it's worse. A little cloud cover today.

Thats just what I had in mind Greg. The tree above the sign is a bit distracting but I think having something dark there is better than a bland sky. Perhaps a slight exposure boost as well, but this is nice.

Isn't it a cool thing in nature that the colours never seem to clash...
The original doesn't seem too centered because to me the subject (even though it's the guy clearly) can be expanded to be guy+bench+ sign. and That's the way my mind views it, so it's not too centered but it's composed well. I also agree that the left side isn't adding to this. I would do a square crop including all the bench and the sign being top left. The crop you posted is good also.

You should have provoked him a bit. A nice disturbed look on his face would have fit with the whole the end is nigh theme. Then again, might have been a safety issue...

Sorry jet I forgot to say thanks. Thanks also username. I would have hated to provoke him. He was the nicest guy.

This is an interesting photo - one that draws you into it. Actually I like both images. At first I preferred the first until the "J" on his cap was brought up. Works both ways for me.
Greg, as we've said many times before, political and religious threads will be deleted from the forums (sigh).......................
Hey, I like the original format the best, but do think it's a little darkish where you can't make out any details on him (looks like it's best exposed for the sign). I would like it even better if it were wider too, showing more context. But nice work
