I really really like this Amy. You have quite an eye. I tend to like diagonals and you did a superb job in capturing them here. The triangles are so perfectly balanced. The only nitpick (and I think this may simply be a female thing) is her eyemakeup. It just seems so starkly black. But then again, it may be exactly what this image needs. I'm not sure. Great image!!

First of all, your composition is gorgeous for the reasons already expressed by dbutler.
That being said, there is a strangeness inherent to this picture (and I don't mean this in a negative way, I usually like strangeness). The thing is that the strong (almost gloomy) contrast of the photograph doesn't necessarily fit with your sister caring/loving attitude toward Jasmine. It creates an interesting tension. It looks like a soft gothic kind of image if it makes any sense.

    keep them coming!

    Amy,

Besides what everybdoy else has pointed out, I wouldn't mind seeing just a tad more of your sister's eye, just to complete the picture. Other than that, a very nice, contrasty picture.

    Good catch,

    Amy,

This is a striking image and shows the loving nature of your sister to the bird and the trust or bond between the two, Now for my warped brain kicking in - it also gives me the impression of a sad farwell as if either sister or bird are off somewhere, never to see each other again.

As far as the eye is concerned in my opinion leave it as is, it adds to the mystery of the photo.

    Re: Jasmine

As both a photographer and a parrot lover/ownerI really love this shot. I know how hard it is to photograph parrots. Maybe east to get a good "photo" of a bird but to get a shot that has feeling is very hard and you did it.

I agree with readingr on the eye.I think it is perfect just as it is, and would detract if there was more.

We tend to think of Parrots for their beautiful colors and the fact that this works so well in B&W makes the picture so much stronger. The picture is about a relationship not a bird.

    Well done.

Like it. I think you almost always have to have the whole eye if you have partof it, so I'd want the frame to be a little bigger to show all the eye of your sister -- especially if you have hte bird's eye showing.

Also, being a lilac-crowned bird would lend itself to a color photo, wouldn't it?

I definitely think that this works as a Black and White, nice contrast, but I think that more of the eye might make a better picture. Overall, however, this seems like a very good picture.

Yes I agree about the colour but it would loose a lot of emotion if colour was added.

Well old Jasmine is not returning the tender love and care she is receiving; she is more interested in the camera as if saying "this is a good laugh shoot now".
So I think it would have been a real tender moment hadJ asmine looked to her owner and appreciated the kiss .
    Very good composition indeed Amy.
There is a lot of contrast in the image so I feel it does not need to have the added contrast of the top heavy black and white border .

Looking forward to seeing some comments from you on other members efforts.
