It's been a while! An Artistic Instrument shoot!

Okay, I shot this series with my Canon Rebel XTi but my firmware is corrupt, so its all shot in AV mode and various settings.

I like number 2 for the color and abstractness of it. Vivid! Number 5 is pretty cool too. Nice shots.
Please ask to edit photos and I'll do the same!
    Thx, Rod

Nice series...the first one has real potential, but I'm not crazy over the high contrast/saturation. The last image really grabs me...the unusual instrument, the angle, the deep colors, would be a great magazine ad. If you have photoshop, add a little green in the upper left corner to get rid of that distracting dark spot. Interesting stuff. :-)

Aside from any technical stuff, I like this series because of the different views and perspectives. Nice work.

I love the first one because to me, they look like tiki heads! LOL I used a tripod and long exposures on all - some of them became more saturated than I wanted them, so i'll soften them up.

http://janehaas.com/1620web/ is where more of that series can be seen. Maybe you'll like some of the others. I was asked to do a showing of them, but am having trouble picking some for a show! There are some cool guitars and basses - I need to add in some of the other instruments I have, just didn't unload them yet. My friend greg owns all of these! Jealous guys? lol

I still love the bottom shot, my favorite of the bunch. I guess my head's in a different place than yours(probably a good thing, LOL) because I still don't care for the top shot. Still, a good series.

Re: It's been a while! An Artistic Instrument shoot!

Hi Janie - The bottom shot seems more interesting to me (the top one isn't bad, just seems mechanical compared to the bottom one which is more curvy and artistic). I really like the bottom's concept. But I think its execution could be adjusted, as such:

    - Sharper angle for greater foreshortening.
    - Either more depth of field or less. Try both.
    - Make the image warmer. If you have to adjust in post processing, but I think you could warm it up with sunlight or supplemental lighting.
    - Change the blanket to something else for it to lay on. It just seems a bit out of place.
    - Change the color of the thing it is laying on.
    - Sharper (absolutely use a tripod)

This may seem like a lot but I think the basics are already there, they just need to be refined.
