    Iron Mountain

Corrected - this was taken east of San Diego near Ramona, at a place called Iron Mountain.

G.........I don't know....it seems a little flat. Maybe a contrast adjustment would bring out the bg a little better? The haze, I think, hurts the potential of this, especially around the center hills. Have you done a B & W version? I'm wondering how this would look. At the least, if you are close enough, you could make a return trip.

The composition is quite good but the uniform light hurts the overall. More contrast might help but I suspect this would be much better with better light (early morning or just before dark-your choice).
    No, I DON'T need that.

    Re: Iron Mountain

To me, the photo seems washed out a bit. Also, there is just too much in the photo. I keep wanting to crop it down to just the left side of the photo but my skills with PS aren't good enough to give an idea of what I have in my head. There's no real focal point in the photo and nothing really catches my eye except the plant and rocks in the lower left side of the photo.

    Re: Iron Mountain

    Thks for commenting.

Adrock, to me, it seems like the tall hill/mountain in the back right is the focal point but with strong supporting subjects in the various bunches of grass. I do see what you mean about there being so much in there. Take a shot at cropping it and post it if you have a vision that might make it better.

It's funny guys, but to me the haze is part of what makes this shot. It sort of draws my attention closer in, though as adrock pointed out, there is no strong subject once there. MB, it could quite possibly be a neat place to photograph in the early morning or at dusk. It's within range of my place for trying a dawn shoot one of these days.

Here's a desaturated version. I don't care for it as much personally .. loses the feeling of life that the green provided.

Hey G. I went ahead and tried. : \ Not sure if this is great or anything, but I like the way the edit draws your eye down the pseudo-valley I've created. I added a little Cyan and blue to the photo and also just a tad of saturation to bring some of the colors out of the grasses and the haze in the background.

Adrock - I see what you mean. It looks to me like you're creating a path, or, a spot for someone to stand and show just enough of the background to enhance but not to dominate. It's an interesting composition, one of many possible ones I guess!

I added a bit too much blue though. I couldn't get it to look the way I see it in my head. Maybe with more time messing with PS CS3 I'll get it one day.

I like the color and lighting of the first. It has a nice aged look to it that is very appealing to me. The only thing that bothers me is the OOF weeds in the foreground. If they were sharp or not there at all it would help. If you could clone them and still keep it good enough to print I think it would help. Kodak?

GB, I like the shot - you always seem to get to go to the coolest places! You are lucky to be in the west coast. I like the way the mountains in the back fade away the further it goes. The composition is solid, I tried an edit to widen the levels and this is what I came up with. It might need to be a bit warmer now though, and the sky is a bit too bright or cool in this edit.

    Re: Iron Mountain

adrock, Good try. I'm no PS expert myself, but making steady progress.

Greg, funny but this is digital. It DOES look like film though, though to me it seems like Fuji since that film leans towards the greens. You are right, the weeds popping up there do make it seem funny. Cloning them out sounds complicated though

Anbesol, yeah that's the trick just been in the places. Out here you can trip and snap as you're falling and still get good shots. Your edit is nice and yes could be a tad warmer, but the contrast creates more depth.

    Re: Iron Mountain

I like the comp alot and as usual I agree with MB1. I do however think that you could bring this up another notch by adjusting the WB ( image has a yellow, warm cast) and a little dodging and burning. I like your crop and comp better than the other tried.
