    Iron Leaf

    Hey all,

I posted this in another critique thread (Clowning around with Trains) because we were talking about how I blur parts of the image post processing to draw emphasis to certain areas, or to convey movement(in this one it also gives it a "3d" effect - for me anyways). The blur in this is all pp. I thought I'd throw the image up here in its own critique to see what you thought of it - if it looked too "fake" or not. For those who missed the other thread, this shot is about (for me) the vine mimicking the barbed wire on the pole. Its a couple years old, but I've been toying with it because I'm going to have a print made I think. Let me know what you think. ;)

Personally (and I'm an oddball so take it all with a grain or three of salt) I don't care for the blur. I feel it draws away from what you are trying to focus on: The comparison between the barbed wire and the vine. I would rather focus on all the varying textures and nuances in the image: The vine, the texture of the pipe, the barbed wire, the variegated leaves, etc. This is the kind of shot that draws me too. The blur just detracts to me.

If you were looking at this image without your definition, what would you think? Im not sure what it is that I'm looking for. There doesn't seem to be much in the image to draw my eyes to but alway good to experiment.

Too bad all the people who know how to run this country are busy running taxicabs or cutting hair.

To put it simply, too busy with no centre of interest.

Hmm...There are several issues with this image, two of which have already been touched on: the blur and the busyness. This also has very limited tonal range. After reading the explanation of what is supposed to be the center of interest, the only thing I can throw out there if you plan on working on this, would be to crop in tighter on your focal point.
